Stop the Carbon Bomb!

The Environmental Protection Agency is currently accepting submissions on Woodside’s amended Browse proposal to build Australia’s largest new gas field on top of the pristine Scott Reef. But, we don’t have much time!

Submissions close on June 10.

This is a crucial opportunity to have our voices heard and make it clear that the community opposes this dangerous fossil fuel project.

We know that the Environmental Protection Authority preliminary view was that Woodside's Browse proposal was unacceptable due to the risk of an oil spill and the impact it would have on Scott Reef that is mere 3 kilometres from the drilling location.

Woodside has now amended its proposal - claiming that technology it said was “emerging” a year ago, would now plausibly eliminate the risk of an oil spill to a borderline hypothetical level.

It has recently been revealed that days prior to the release of Woodside’s amended plan it had been responsible for an oil spill that saw 16,000 litres of oil leak into the surrounding ocean. With a proposed 50 gas wells, any chance of a leak is too high.

The risk to marine wildlife and ecosystems is huge not to mention the ongoing impact of the massive resulting emissions. This project, is approved, would be the largest new fossil fuel project in the Southern Hemisphere!

We urgently need the EPA to receive thousands of submissions so they know Australians reject this carbon bomb and the danger it poses to Scott Reef!

To make the process as easy as possible join your Greens WA MLCs Sophie McNeill, our climate change and fossil fuels spokesperson, and Jess Beckerling MLC next week at one of our submission writing workshops.

Together, we can make sure that the community’s concerns about this proposal are heard.
