Join Senator Dorinda Cox for a Day of Mourning service

On 26 January, 234 years ago, the British First Fleet invaded this land.

For the past decade or so, that date has been synonymous with celebration of Australian pride and patriotism. Without truth telling we are constantly reminded of how our children were removed from the arms of their mothers, the destruction of our lands and seas without our permission and we are reminded of the countless lives lost in colonial wars and massacres fighting for our survival.

Since 1938, Aboriginal activists, led by Yorta Yorta man, William Cooper, have come together to call for a National Day of Mourning for First Nations people, more than 80 years on, it is time this happened as true recognition of our sovereignty and history on this land.

Will you join Senator Dorinda Cox on January 26th to take part in a Day of Mourning service, if it's safe to do so?

Time: 6:30am for a 7:00am start

Location: Victoria Gardens, East Perth

This Day of Mourning, let's transform our grief into hope for the future through Truth Telling and Treaty.

Nation-wide the Greens are avoiding mass gathering events because of the COVID situation. In WA, we encourage people to attend smaller events if safe to do so. To keep our community safe, please wear a mask and do not attend an event if you feel unwell or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19.
