Australia is at its best when we fight for the freedom, dignity, and opportunity for all people. Pride is a celebration of that progress, but it's also a reminder that every step forward has been won because ordinary people chose to stand up, get involved, and build a better future.
The Greens have been part of that story for decades. Long before marriage equality became mainstream, Greens representatives were fighting for LGBTIQA+ rights in parliaments across the country. While homosexuality remained a criminal offence in Tasmania, Bob Brown was elected as an openly gay Senator and was one of the country's most prominent advocates for equality. In 2009, Sarah Hanson-Young introduced one of the first federal marriage equality bills, years before either major party was prepared to support reform. The Greens have consistently pushed for stronger anti-discrimination protections, better healthcare access, support for trans and gender-diverse people, and policies that allow everyone to live openly and safely as themselves.
We're proud that Assorted Grains Inc. has recognised the Queensland Greens - Logan as a safe space for LGBTIQA+ people through the Safe Spaces Logan initiative. As far as we're aware, we're the only political party to receive this, a reflection of decades of advocacy and solidarity.
But none of these achievements happened because politicians acted alone. They happened because people built movements. They volunteered, marched, organised, had difficult conversations, and refused to give up on the idea that Australia could be fairer than it was yesterday.
That's why events like Logan Pride matter. They're a chance to celebrate our community, connect with people who share our values, and continue growing a movement that believes everyone deserves to belong.
March with us and spend time with us on the booth to grow our movement. Let's show that a more inclusive Logan, and a more inclusive Australia, is something worth building together.
See you at Pride. 🌈💚
