Screening (plus filmmaker Q&A) of Franklin, award-winning documentary about the Franklin River. Along with a sneak preview of a brand new documentary about Tasmanian forests - The Last Giants.

Join us for a special evening to talk about forests, nature, activism and joy.

Screening of the acclaimed documentary Franklin (2022) along with a sneak peak taster of a brand new, not-yet-released documentary, The Last Giants, which will be released in 2027.

Eighth-generation Tasmanian and environmentalist Oliver Cassidy embarks on a life-changing solo rafting trip down the beautiful yet remote Franklin River. His goal is to retrace his late father’s 14-day expedition to attend the blockade that helped save the World-Heritage listed national park from being destroyed by a huge hydroelectric dam project in the early 1980s.

Featuring never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with key players such as Bob Brown and Uncle Jim Everett, the eight-year-long 'Franklin campaign' is revealed as the most significant environmental protest in Australia's history; an inspiring example of the power of non-violent direct action to bring about lasting change.

“Awe-inspiring" - Time Out, “A gorgeous film … a visual tapestry” - SMH

Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A with some filmmakers and environmental activists, hosted by Gabrielle de Vietri MP. Details TBC.
